Bucking a season long trend, the Deseronto Bulldogs cruised to a 6-2 road win over the Tweed Oil Kings on Saturday afternoon in Eastern Ontario Super Hockey League action.

The victory marked the first away from the friendly confines of the Dog Pound, improving their record to 1-3 on the road. Though one would never know about those struggles based on this game as the Bulldogs took control early and never looked back. Austin Labelle, Brodie Maracle and Cullen Hinds each found the back of the net to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead at the first intermission.

Devin McCann got the home team on the board just over five minutes into the second only to see Joey Mayer and Ethan Cohens respond for the visitors, extending Deseronto’s lead to 5-1.

The two sides traded goals in the third with Adrian Wilson scoring for Tweed before Hinds potted his second of the game with under three minutes remaining.

Brady Sarazin earned the win for Deseronto with 39 saves while Tweed’s Troy Webster took the loss, finishing with 31 stops on the afternoon.

With the win the Bulldogs move back up to .500 on the year with a 4-4 record while the loss does the opposite for the Oil Kings, who drop down to 4-4. Both teams are currently tied for third in the EOSHL West Division with eight points, one back of second place Arnprior-who is 4-3 with an overtime loss. The Gananoque Islanders lead the pack at 6-1, good for 12 points.

Deseronto will have a chance to leap over Arnprior in the standings when they welcome the Rivermen to the Deseronto Community Rec Centre this Saturday. Puck drop is 6:30 p.m.
