Continuing their late season struggles, the Deseronto Bulldogs dropped two games this weekend and have now lost five of their last six Eastern Ontario Senior Hockey League games.

Facing the top two teams in the league, they were bested 7-4 at home by the West Carleton Rivermen on Friday before losing 10-6 to the Cornwall Prowlers on the road Sunday.

Four goals in the third wasn’t nearly enough for Deseronto, who never held a lead at any point during Sunday’s game.

Deseronto’s Joey Mayer scored at the 14:10 mark of the first to tie the game at 1-1. Cornwall reeled off four unanswered goals to build a 5-1 lead and never looked back from there.

Kyle Wetering and Mayer each finished with two goals for Deseronto while Brandon Gilmour and Will Lamoureux each had one.

On Friday it was a similar story. After allowing the game’s first goal just one minute into the game, Deseronto responded courtesy of Gilmour just over a minute later.

West Carleton scored the game’s next three goals, offset by one from Mayer to take a 4-2 lead into the first intermission.

After allowing another goal in the opening two minutes of the second, Deseronto responded with one from Lamoureux and Gilmour to cut the deficit to 5-4.

That was as close as they’d get however as West Carleton again scored in the opening two minutes of the third and added another in the final seconds to secure the 7-4 win.

Deseronto is now 4-10-0-1, with three games left to play in their inaugural regular season. Their nine points puts them third in the four team EOSHL. Maxville trails Deseronto by five at 2-14. West Carleton leads at 13-1-1-1 (28 points), four up on the Prowlers at 11-2-2 (24).

Deseronto wraps up the regular season with three home games, starting on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. when they welcome West Carleton. On Feb. 1 they host Cornwall and Feb. 2 they take on Maxville.
