The Deseronto Bulldogs pushed the Eastern Ontario Senior Hockey League’s last remaining unbeaten team to the limit on the road Friday night but ultimately came up just short.

Facing the West Carleton Rivermen, the Bulldogs fell 5-4.

The two sides traded goals through the first period with Deseronto’s Will Lamoureux answering West Carleton’s Rylel Egan.

Mitch Thompson put the Bulldogs up 2-1 early in the second only to see West Carleton rattle off three unanswered goals in just over three minutes. Kyle Wetering scored on the power-play to cut the deficit to 4-3 heading into the final intermission.

Adrian Moyes scored just over five minutes into the third to put West Carleton up 5-3. Mitch Merry responded at 14:11 to bring the Bulldogs to within one, but that’s as close as they’d get.

Kira Hurley turned away 26 of 31 shots for Deseronto. Brandon Billie stopped 24 pucks for the win.

West Carleton improved to 8-0-1, leading the EOSHL with 17 points. Cornwall is second at 6-1-2, Deseronto third at 3-5 with Maxville last at 0-8.

The Bulldogs will host Maxville on Saturday, 6:30 p.m. at the Deseronto Community Rec Centre.
