Saturday’s meeting between the Deseronto Bulldogs and West Carleton Rivermen came to a sudden halt in the third period when Bulldog goalie Graeme Gemmill suffered a medical emergency at the Deseronto Community Rec Centre.

With 12 minutes left in the third period, Gemmill collapsed in his crease during a stoppage in play. According to a release by the team, members of the training staff were joined by nurses and firefighters from the crowd as well as the referee crew to ensure proper steps were taken before the EMS could arrive.

The Eastern Ontario Senior Hockey League issues a release on Sunday, saying Gemmill is ‘recovering well and tests are being done.’

Following the emergency, the game was called as a 6-6 tie. Mitch Merry and Jordan Cannons each had a pair of goals for the Bulldogs while Austin Collins and Johnny Maracle each had one.

Deseronto’s next scheduled game is a road game against Cornwall on Dec. 28.
