The Deseronto Bulldogs had the one timer working on Wednesday night as they doubled up the Frontenac Phantoms 6-3 in an EOSHL exhibition game at the Strathcona Paper Centre.
Cody Smith opened the scoring for the Bulldogs early in the first, finishing a perfect passing play from Cullen Hinds and Joey Mayer with a well-executed slap shot that found the top shelf.
Those three connected again shortly after on a similar play, although this time it was Mayer who flicked the puck in from the side of the net with assists from Smith and Hinds.
Jordan Cannons made it 3-0 late in the third when his shot made its way through traffic and into the back of the net. Brett Maracle and Kyle Wetering picked up assists on the play.
Nathan Mutch attempted to single-handily get the Phantoms back into the game, scoring all three Frontenac goals in the second period. Dawson Chard and Jordan Torres each assisted on his first and third goal while Chris Brant helped on his second.
The Bulldogs were able to stay one step ahead of the comeback however, never relenting their lead and eventually holding on for the 6-3 win.
Smith picked up another goal, once again with help from Hinds. He then returned the favour for Deseronto’s fifth goal, as he and Brody Morris set up Hinds for his first of the night. He finished the scoring with his second of the night with assists going to Chris Rogalsky and Wetering.

Kira Hurley was busy in net, turning away 29 Phantom shots to earn the win. At the other end of the ice the Bulldogs fired 24 pucks at Frontenac’s Jason Lesage.
Wednesday’s game was a continuation of an exhibition series as the two senior clubs continue to prepare for next fall in the hopes of being able to hold a traditional regular season. In an effort to get as many players ice time while still adhering to social distance protocols, the Bulldogs dressed nine different players compared to last week’s roster. Both clubs played with just 11 players. Once again the game was played under modified rules of 15-minute run-time periods with no flood between periods. The game was again played with no fans allowed to attend.
The two teams are scheduled to meet again next Wednesday at the SPC under the same guidelines.
