The Deseronto Bulldogs came up just short in Saturday’s goalfest in Eastern Ontario Senior Hockey League action in Maxville, falling 8-6 to the Millionaires.
Deseronto spent the majority of the game chasing the Millionaires, falling behind 1-0 just 1:25 into the game.
The Bulldogs were able to battle back to tie it at 5-5 at the 8:19 mark of the third, but couldn’t complete the comeback. The Millionaires reeled off three unanswered goals and held on for the 8-6 win.
Kyle Wetering and Jordan Cannons each had a pair of goals for Deseronto while Craig Cross and Mitch Merry each notched one.
Graeme Gemmill, making his first start since having to leave the Dec. 14 game with a medical emergency, made 35 saves in the loss.
Deseronto is now 4-8 on the year, having just one tie and three losses in their last four games. They’ll get another shot at Maxville, who have beaten them twice in a row for their lone two wins on the season, this Saturday. The Bulldogs will host Maxville for a 6:30 p.m. puck drop at the Deseronto Community Rec Centre.
With nine points on the season, Deseronto sits third in the league, five up on the 2-12 Millionaires. West Carleton (10-1-1-1) and Cornwall (10-2-2) are tied for first, each with 22 points, though West Carleton has one game in hand.
