A back-and-forth affair ended in heartbreak for the Deseronto Bulldogs on Saturday night as they fell 6-5 in overtime to the visiting Tweed Oil Kings in Eastern Ontario Super Hockey League action.

Deseronto clung to a 5-4 advantage down to the final two minutes before Nathan Larson notched the equalizer. Tweed’s Brandon Couto completed the comeback in overtime.

The two unanswered goals were actually the first of the night for either side as they had alternated goals up until that point.

Griffen Conger got the home team on the board just over three minutes into the game. Cody Warren responded for Tweed, only to see Ethan Coens get one back for the Bulldogs just over two minutes later. Luigi Martone struck for Tweed with just over five minutes left in the first to make it 2-2 heading into the first intermission.

Brodie Butt put the Dogs ahead in the second with a power-play tally, only to see Tweed respond with a man-advantage goal just over three minutes later to once again knot things up heading into the break.

William Lamoureux struck early for Deseronto in the third, potting a power-play goal in the opening two minutes for a 4-3 lead.

Tweed’s Jesse Douglas added a short-handed marker to once again tie things up. Jordan Cannons put the Bulldogs up 5-4 but they just couldn’t hang on as Tweed rallied late and eventually stole the win in overtime.

Trevor Withers took the loss with 44 saves while Matt Loveys earned the win, turning away 42 shots.

Despite the loss the Bulldogs did pick up a point and are now 1-3-0-0-1 on the year (three points), one point up on sixth place Frontenac. Tweed improves to 4-1-0-1 on the year, with 10 points and third place in the West Division. Smiths Falls leads the division at 7-0-0-1 (16 points) with West Carleton in second at 4-2-0-1-1 (11). The Gananoque Islanders are two points up on Deseronto at 2-3-0-0-1.

The Bulldogs will be on the road this Saturday, travelling to Maxville to take on the Mustangs of the East Division. Deseronto returns home on Nov. 20 to welcome the South Grenville Rangers for a 6:30 p.m. puck drop at the Deseronto Community Rec Centre.

Prior to the game the Bulldogs announced they had swung a deal to acquire goalie Cam Parr from the Islanders. The Napanee native has suited up for the Raiders during his Junior C career from 2014-16. Defenceman Craig Cross is headed to the Islanders to complete the deal.
