Canada’s U17 Junior Men’s 7-2 victory over Argentina last night in Guatemala at the Pan American Softball Championships was a meaningful one.

The victory not only assured Canada a spot in Saturday’s finals at the Pan Ams, but also qualified them for the 2020 WBSC Men’s World Cup, which will take place in New Zealand next February. The top four teams at the Pan Am games automatically qualify for the World Cup.

The Canadians used a balanced attack against Argentina, pounding out 10 hits while scoring in four different innings. Napanee’s Connor Brooks picked up a hit and scored a run and is now hitting .286 in five games played.

Canada will close out round robin play against Belize, which gets underway at 6 p.m. eastern time. Regardless of the result of tonight’s game, the Canadians will face Mexico in tomorrow’s finals. Canada is 4-1 heading into tonight’s game while Mexico is 5-1.
