Bath’s paranormal past is highlighted every Friday evening through Nov. 2 as the village hosts a Haunted Walk.
Led by David Fisher, the hour long walk snakes through the historic Loyalist village, making stops at several points of interest to speak of a spooky tale.
“It’s a lot about the spirits that are still kicking around since the 1700s or things that happened in the 1800s in some of these homes,” said Fisher.
All of the stories are researched, fact checked and believed to be true. Some even include the village’s historic figures, such as the Ham family. Fisher says its up to the members of the tour to decide whether they want to believe it involves spirits or has a more earth-based scientific explanation.
“When you go back that far with shipping, the War of 1812, slavery and other things going on (during that time period), there’s stories to be had,” said Fisher.
The cost of the walk is $10, cash only. The tour departs from the Lafarge 1812 Discovery Centre and travels through the village to St. John’s Church and back to the Fairfield Gutzeit House. The walks depart at 7:15 p.m. every Friday through Nov. 2, with a special walk on Halloween night. The tour is not recommended for anyone under the age of 12, as some of the stories told could be a bit dark for children.
Having started up in September, already the tours have been well received.
“The last walk we had 24 people,” said Fisher. “Most people have lived in Bath for quite some time and had no idea about some of the spirits and the goings on in the area at that time.”
Fisher says the walk also tends to bring out stories from members of the tour who share their own experiences with supernatural presences.
