Bantam Stars topple Muskies to advance

The Napanee Bantam BB Stars advanced to the quarterfinals of the OMHA playdowns with a 3-1 win in Lindsay on Saturday.

Battling the weather and a solid Muskies team, they took control early on, going ahead by two, but the Muskies came back with a tally of their own later in the game to add to the tension.

An empty-net goal by the Stars cemented the victory. They will face Prince Edward County in the next series.

-The Peewee BB Stars defeated Prince Edward County 6-2 to begin their quarterfinal series.

Less than two minutes in, Will Myers’ point shot, on the power play made it 1-0. Cal Uens fired a shot from the low slot to elude the goalie. Carter McKee picked up a loose rebound to score what would be the winner.

Spencer Cranley added a pair, and McKee netted another to round out the scoring.    

The Stars were full value for the victory, outshooting their opponents 44-14. Game 3 is at the SPC Sunday at 5 p.m.

-The AFW Construction Novice team were outscored 6-5 by Ennismore in Game 7 of their round robin.

They fell behind early, giving up a pair. At the half way mark, Colton Lockridge got the first of his two goals. The Eagles made it 3-2 with one second left in the second period.

Wyatt Whalen scored early in the third, but they could not hold onto the tie giving up two more. Cooper Seaton scored with just over two minutes left, but again they gave up another directly after.

William Babcock scored to get them within one with seven seconds left, but it ended 6-5 for their guests. Gananoque will visit the SPC Saturday at 2 p.m., and Prince Edward County will be their guests Sunday at noon.

– The Atom BBs are preparing to face Lindsay in quarterfinals while the Joyce Meats & Deli Atom AE squad will begin their quarter-final series facing Collingwood Saturday at home. Puck drop for the Atom AEs is at 5 p.m. Sunday’s game is at 3 p.m.

– Meanwhile, the Calderwood Automation Peewee AEs will take to the Goodyear ice facing Elmvale Saturday at 3:15 p.m., and Sunday at 1:15 p.m.

nAfter a bye in the first round, the Napanee Cab Midgets will play Prince Edward County at home Saturday night at 6:30 p.m.

The Doyle’s Windows and Sunrooms Midget BB have moved onto the second round of playoffs after defeating West Northumberland Wild in two games.

They closed out the series Wednesday with a 5-1 victory. Kiera Golosky was solid in net for the win.

Goals were provided by  Katie Hearns, Rayanne West, Megan Morrow (two) and Olivia Fenwick.

Assists went to Mackenzie O’Sullivan, Megan Morrow, Rayanne West (two), Anna Murphy, Katie Hearns, Alanna Voth and Gracie Hearns. They will now await their next round opponent.
