The Calderwood Automation Bantam BB Stars are planning a trip to Huntsville for semifinal playoffs after advancing over Lindsay in Game 5 with a 3-1 win.
The boys came to play and never trailed. Spencer Cranley grabbed Gavin Brooks’ point shot to go five-hole along the ice. The Muskies got their lone goal minutes later. In the second frame, Cranley went coast-to-coast for the winner on the power-play. Aaron Storms ensured the win as he walked in alone to fire high over the blocker on a setup by Zered Haller. Goalie Sam Rickard deserved the win, as the team outplayed and outworked, even outshot their opponents 35-20.
-The Country Butcher Shop Peewee BBs began their semifinals with Midland earning a 5-3 win at home. Mitchel Turner squeezed one by the right post, but by the end of the first, they trailed by one. The second period was scoreless, but the Stars broke it open scoring three in less than two minutes. Turner, all alone in front, picked an opening. Owen Dwyer was able to dribble one through the goalie, and Dylan Kemp scored the winner from a difficult angle at the edge of the net. Scott Scrimshaw found the empty net as well. Assists went to Tie Wood (three), Mason Goodfellow, Turner, and Scrimshaw. Aiden Difasio was solid in net, and the locals outshot their opponents by 36-14.
Sunday was much tighter, and ended deadlocked at 5-5. Owen Kish initiated the scoring on a great effort after losing the puck briefly, then going high. The Stars gave up two power-play goals, then got a power-play marker by Goodfellow. Kemp regained the lead with a shot along the ice from just inside the blueline. Penalty trouble continued with a tying goal by their guests. Tie Wood made a nifty pass in front for a tap-in by Turner, and Goodfellow tallied after Blake Wood made a fine shot. However, short-handed again, the locals gave up the equalizer with 35 seconds left. Neither team could break the deadlock in OT. Goalie Joaquim Murray earned the tie, as the boys were outshot 36-31, and gave up three power play markers. Game 3 is in Midland on Saturday.
-The Napanee Canadian Tire Peewee AEs, down 2-0 in games, were able to win in Bracebridge 5-3 on Friday giving goalie Hudson Wiltshire the win, but the boys lost 6-3 on Saturday to South Muskoka to end their playoff run.
