Avril Lavigne to join Hollywood Walk of Fame this afternoon

Avril Lavigne will achieve Hollywood immortality later today when her star is officially added to the iconic Walk of Fame in the category of Recording.

The former Napanee native will become the 2,731 star added to the Walk of Fame, located at 6212 Hollywood Boulevard in California. Her induction ceremony will be streamed live at www.WalkofFame.com at 2:30 p.m. EST.

“This isn’t Complicated, Avril Lavigne is very deserving of this Walk of Fame star and we are thrilled to be honouring her with this great honour” stated Ana Martinez, producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame in a release to the Hollywood Walk of Fame website. “Avril’s fans have been blowing up my phone asking when she will be getting her star. We are thrilled to say that the time is now.”

Lavigne has sold over 40 million albums worldwide and received eight Juno awards and eight Grammy nominations.

According to the Walk of Fame website, she earned a spot in the Top 10 of Billboard’s Best of the 2000s chart and holds a Guinness World Record as the youngest female solo artist to top the UK chart, while “Girlfriend” emerged as first music video to reach 100 million views on YouTube. She has also earned multiple No. 1 hits around the globe. Her social media following notably exceeds 93.8 million fans worldwide.

Lavigne’s catalogue comprises the septuple platinum Let Go, triple-platinum Under My Skin, double-platinum The Best Damn Thing, gold-selling Goodbye Lullaby, gold-selling Avril Lavigne, and Head Above Water highlighted by definitive smashes such as “Complicated,” “Sk8er Boi,” “Girlfriend,” “Here’s To Never Growing Up,” and “Head Above Water.” As such, she remains of one of the Soundscan-era’s top-selling artists releasing albums in the U.S. and the third best-selling Canadian female artist of all-time.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the release of her record setting debut album Let Go.

Lupita Sanchez Cornejo will emcee today’s induction with guest speaker Machine Gun Kelly.
