Amelia Burnett delivers extra-inning game winner as U17 Express girls capture gold in Stratford

The Napanee Barr Homes Express U17 girls went toe-to-toe with the Milton Bats in the gold medal final of a tournament in Stratford with the Express pulling out a 4-3 victory in extra innings.

Napanee went 4-1 in round robin play which seeded them first overall and earned them a spot in the semifinals against Guelph Gators in the playoff round.

Napanee came out strong on the bats and walked away with an 11-3 win, advancing them to the gold medal game against Milton.

This game turned into a battle, with Napanee coming out on top and winning 4-3 in extra innings to claim the gold. Danielle Barker got the nod in the circle and she delivered, pitching all eight innings. Keyana Whan gave the Express a 2-0 lead in the third with a two-run out of the park homerun. Milton battled back in the top of the seventh, scoring three runs to take the lead. In the bottom of the seventh Emily Liscumb hit a single , then stole second to get into scoring position. Alicia Smith had a hard hit up the middle scoring Liscumb and sending the game to extra innings and using the international tie breaking rule, starting a runner on second base Milton couldn’t get it done as Napanee’s defence delivered holding the runner on second. Next it was Napanee’s turn with Maddison Boucher starting on second for the Express and Amelia Burnett knocking in the winning run.

Next up for the Express is there Provincial Qualifier July 21-23 in Cobourg.
