Lennox and Addington 4-H organizers have big plans for 2018 to coincide with the club’s centennial celebration.

Registration will get underway next month, with a Feb. 2 session from 4 to 8 p.m. at the arena on York Street, next to the curling club. On Feb. 19, which is Family Day, they’ll have a registration desk at the Strathcona Paper Centre from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Feb. 25 they’ll be at Newburgh Hall from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

They’ll have a host of new clubs for this year including feathered friends, a Halloween-themed spooktacular and an alpaca club, among others. They’re also bringing back the swine club, which was the very first club 4-H held when it was founded 100 years ago. This year will also see the return of programming to Amherst Island with a pie club.

The club is open to anyone age six to 21 whether they live on a farm or not. For those that sign up for animal clubs, 4-H can provide access to animals if members don’t have any of their own. Last year over half the small animal members didn’t have their own animals but were still able to show at the local fairs.

Among the highlights for the coming year is a club to club exchange, which will see members from Lennox and Addington visit another province and then host 4-H members from another province.

Along with accepting members, the club is also seeking volunteer teachers for its lifestyle clubs for skills such as cooking, gardening, birding and introduction to mechanics.
