Kingston Frontenac and Lennox and Addington medical officer of health Dr. Kieran Moore offered an update of the status of COVID-19 cases across the region.
As of Monday morning, there are now 25 active cases in the community. That follows a confirmed outbreak at a Binh’s Nail and Spa in Kingston on Thursday, which prompted a busy weekend of testing across the region.
Moore noted there were six workers at Binh’s who tested positive, six clients and 11 contacts of those clients. A worker at a separate salon, Kingdom Nails in Kingston, also tested positive. There was also a confirmed case within a member of a home of one of Binh’s employees.
“Our total number now within a week is 25 individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19, some of whom who have had minimal symptoms and very good news that no one has required to be in hospital, everyone’s doing well,” said Moore. “Everyone is isolating appropriately, protecting themselves from the community and doing best practices within their home environment.”
Moore says they have conducted over 3,000 tests in the last week. Several test results are still pending. Any direct visitor to those two nail salons or a contact of any confirmed case has been instructed to get tested. As well, anyone showing any symptoms of COVID-19 should get tested as well.
On Saturday morning Moore officially put into place Section 22, which calls for the use of hand sanitizer before entering a business and all customers and staff must wear a face covering.
“We still have some of the lowest rates in all of Ontario,” said Moore. “Across Ontario the rates of illness are coming down. We’re in a good position, we have to maintain that good position, especially as we head into the fall.”
