Ontario’s Ministry of Education has finalized the dates for the 2020-21 school year. Announcing Sept. 3 as the first day for students.
Whether students will be in an actual classroom or through some form of e-learning or a mix of both remains to be seen. The plans for reopening schools are expected to be finalized in early August.
For now, teachers and staff have been instructed to prepare for the new school year on Aug. 31, Sept. 1 and Sept. 2, which will be Professional Activity (PA) Days, with the official start for students on Sept. 3.
That means there will be three fewer PA Days throughout the school year.
The remaining PA Days are scheduled for Sept. 25, Jan. 29, June 4 and June 26. The December Break will run Dec. 21-Jan. 1 with March Break scheduled for March 15-19.
For secondary school students, semester one will run Aug. 31 to Jan. 29 with second semester going Feb. 1 to June 25.
