With an announcement of further lockdown orders expected to be made by Ontario Premier Doug Ford later today, Ontario Education Minister Stephen Lecce tweeted just before 10 a.m. today that schools in the province will remain open.
“Schools will remain open — critical for students’ mental health & learning. The Chief Medical Officer of Health has said schools remain safe. Against third wave & VOCs, strong protocols have kept 98.7% of schools open and 74% without any cases. Students deserve to be in class,” Lecce tweeted.
Yesterday afternoon local school boards told parents that students had been instructed to bring personal items home ahead of the Easter long weekend in the event schools moved to virtual learning for the remainder of the year.
