Bantam Express perfect 3-0 at nationals in Innerkip

Dylan Hehn’s walk-off single has helped the Napanee U16 Bantam Express to a perfect 3-0 start at the U16 Men’s Fast Pitch Canadian Championship, taking place in Innerkip, On.

Hehn singled in Connor Brooks in the eighth inning for a 5-4 win over fellow Ontario entry Shallow Lake on Wednesday night. It was his second RBI of the game. Rob Barker also plated a pair while Travis Phibbs had one. Brooks picked up the win with 6.2 innings pitched, allowing just one run while striking out 11.

Napanee continued their winning ways this morning with a 6-4 win over Quebec. Carter Hillier and Brooks each cashed in a pair of runners while Brock Fencott drove in one. Fencott picked up the win.

Napanee opened the tournament with a 7-0 win over the Saskatoon Selects. Barker drove in one while Jacob Boutilier, Fencott, Jacob Martin, Nicholas McGrayne and Kody McLaughlin each had an RBI.

Brooks picked up the shutout win, striking out 17 Selects while allowing just two hits.

Napanee will take on the host Innerkip team this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. and then close out the day with a 6:30 p.m. game against the Memramcook Hawks from New Brunswick.

They wrap up the round robin tomorrow with a 10 a.m. game against Newfoundland, 1:30 p.m. match with the Nova Scotia East Hants Mastodons and then a 4:30 p.m. against the Tavistock Athletics.
