The province’s arm’s length police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been called in to investigate a fatal accident on County Rd. 2 east of Napanee Tuesday.
Around 3:30 p.m. the Napanee OPP became aware of a sports-utility vehicle travelling at excessive rates of speed on Bridge Street through town.
Officers made attempts to stop the vehicle. On County Rd 2 the sports-utility vehicle was involved in a collision with another vehicle. The 88-year-old female driver of that vehicle, later identified as Florence Wyatt-Morris, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 42-year-old male driver of the sports-utility vehicle was transported to hospital, where he was diagnosed with a serious injury.
The OPP kept County Rd. 2 closed near Old Hamburg Road and Switzerville Road for some time.
Five investigators, four forensic investigators and a collision reconstructionist were assigned to the scene.
